How to Clean Bathroom Curtains

Oct 17th

Bathroom Curtains are exposed to heat and moisture. This makes them susceptible to mold growth, resulting in odor and discoloration if left untreated. Keep your bathroom curtains clean and free from odor by washing them once a week. Fabrics used for bathroom curtains are usually washed by machine, making this job much easier. In less than a couple of hours, your curtains will be clean and fresh again. They are also useful for blocking the view of a kitchen while you can easily write and leave the room full of hands. Acrylic beads are formed on strings, while wood and bamboo beads are individually behaved. Both styles are easy to hang.

Take down the curtains for cleaning. Check them for stains from mold or soap residue. Treat mold stains with a commercial stain spray pretreatment. If your Bathroom Curtains are colored, see the stain spray is safe for colored fabrics — if not, detergent with a color-safe pale option. Run the curtains through a short, warm water wash, using a lot of detergents recommended on the packaging. Add 1/2 cup of baking soda and a cap of plain detergent to the laundry after the first cycle have been completed. Let the curtains go through another hot water wash program. Remove the curtains from the washing machine.

Tips and warnings

Open your bathroom window, if possible, after shower or bath. The ventilation will help wipe the Bathroom Curtains faster, prevent mold. Curtains that appear fragile — like lace — should be hand washed in the bathtub or sink. Use detergents and baking soda to clean them. Rinse them properly and hang them on dry. Pear-stained curtains keep insects from a screened porch without blocking airflow. If you are unsure if they are drier-safe, or if the curtains are vinyl, hang them on the dryer (indoor or outdoor).  If the curtains are fabrics, you may want to dry them in the dryer, check for a label with instructions.
